Nowadays, the latest car models have fuel pumps that are located inside their fuel tanks. The electric fuel pump that modern cars have builds up pressure in the fuel lines, which pushes gasoline into the car’s engine. Thus, as gasoline pressure rises, the boiling point rises as well. The pump that is placed in the tank puts the component, which is can be the most difficult to handle gasoline vapor as far from the engine as possible while soaked in cool liquid. Placing the pump in the tank also lessens the possibility of starting a fire. This is because the liquid fuel will not blow up even if electrical components ignite fuel vapors. Consequently, placing the pump immersed inside the tank makes it a safe place to position it. Most often than not, fuel pumps of cars bear consistent gasoline flow to the engine; thus, the fuel, which is not used is returned to the tank. On the other hand, some ECU may be mechanized or programmed to close down the pump in case they hit on zero or low oil pressure. This can happen if the engine has been extremely affected by terminal failure, which can result to fire in the compartment of the engine.

When replacing or installing electric fuel pump, you should first disconnect the battery’s ground terminal prior to disconnecting the electrical connectors of the pump. Make sure you keep the wires labeled so it can be easier to connect them to the new pump. Otherwise, reversing the wires can damage the pump unit. More so, vapor and fuel lines should be disconnected from the pump. These lines should also be labeled for easier connection to the new pump.

In addition, when you take out the inside tank pump, simply remove the fuel sending unit or lock ring. You may also have to remove the fuel tank in order to get the lock ring. When the fuel pump is outside of the tank, you simply have to remove the bolts that are securing it in its place. On the other hand, you should loosen the lock rink when the tanks are inside the tank pump.
